Smart and RGB LED bulbs: intelligent, colour changing light from your phone

Smart LED bulbs are bulbs with connectivity built in, controlled from an app on your phone or by voice, with no need to change the switch or install a dimmer. RGB, RGBW and CCT: which one suits you

A pure RGB mixes red, green and blue: it is perfect for colour, but the white it produces by mixing is not entirely clean. An RGBW LED bulb adds a fourth independent pure white chip, so it works both as colour light and as the main light in the room. A CCT LED bulb does not do colour: it adjusts the white temperature, moving from 2700-3000K warm white to 6000K cool white, passing through 4000K neutral. In the living room, scenes let you switch from neutral working light to a warm, dimmed tone for watching a film without touching anything but your phone. What is the difference between RGB, RGBW and CCT?

RGB mixes red, green and blue to produce colour. RGBW adds a pure white chip, so it also works as the main light. CCT does not change colour: it adjusts the white from warm tones of 2700-3000K to cool tones of 6000K.

Do I need a bridge or hub to use a WiFi LED bulb?

Can they be dimmed without a dimmer on the wall?

Do they work if I turn off the wall switch?

No. When the power is cut, the bulb drops off the WiFi network and stops responding to the app or to voice until you give it power again from the switch.
