90 cm LED tubes: the in-between size hardly anyone stocks

90 cm LED tubes are the 13W T8 format that replaces the 30W fluorescent. It is the least common length and for that very reason the most sought after: it turns up in older fittings and in installations where a 60 cm tube falls short and a 120 cm one simply will not go in. With a G13 base, the familiar bi-pin with 13 mm between pins, the 90 cm LED tube mounts straight into the existing fitting. And there is no leeway here: if your gear is 90 cm, you need exactly this size. Close enough is not good enough.

Why the length is non-negotiable

A T8 tube rests on two fixed lampholders, one at each end. The distance between them is set by the length of the tube, so there is no slack: a shorter tube will not reach the contacts and a longer one will not fit in the housing. Before ordering, measure the old tube from base to base, or the internal space in the fitting; if you get around 90 cm, this is your category.

Size, power and colour temperature

T8 means a tubular tube 26 mm in diameter, the same profile as the classic fluorescent. In this length the FactorLED power is 13W and it replaces the 30W fluorescent the original fitting carried. The available temperatures are the usual three: 3000K warm, 4000K neutral and 6000K cool. In commercial kitchens, bakeries and work areas the 4000K to 6000K range is the one used, so details stand out clearly and colours stay true.

How to replace a 30W fluorescent

The G13 base is the same, so the tube goes in and twists exactly like the fluorescent. What changes is inside: conventional gear carries a starter and a ballast or choke, and when moving to LED these have to be removed or bypassed depending on the tube model you choose. It is the step that raises the most questions, so it is worth opening the fitting and seeing what is in there before you buy.

What you gain is tangible: the LED lights instantly, without the warm up flicker of a tired 30W tube, contains no mercury, tolerates the constant switching of a corridor or a storeroom and lasts between 15,000 and 25,000 hours against the 8,000-10,000 hours of a fluorescent.

How to choose yours

First confirm the size with a tape measure, not from memory. Then choose the colour temperature according to use: neutral or cool in work areas, warm only if the corridor is part of a home or a customer facing space.
