GU10 and MR16 LED Bulbs: Dimmable and High CRI

Discover our professional range of GU10 LED bulbs and MR16 LED bulbs, the two most widely used references in domestic, commercial and retail directional lighting. We have standard models, dimmable LED bulbs compatible with dimmers and high CRI bulbs (Ra≥90) that reproduce colours with cinematic fidelity. Ideal for recessed spotlights, tracks, adjustable lamps and shop windows.

GU10 LED bulbs: the most versatile option

GU10 LED bulbs use mains power (220-240V) and screw in directly with a simple twist, with no transformer required. You'll find them in wattages from 3W to 9W, with light outputs of 250 to 800 lumens and beam angles between 24° and 120° depending on the model. They are the direct replacement for old 50W GU10 halogens, with savings of up to 85% in consumption.

MR16 LED bulbs: for low-voltage systems

MR16 LED bulbs run at 12V and require a compatible transformer (LED driver). They are widely used in decorative lighting, jewellery shop windows, display cabinets and damp areas, since the low voltage makes them safer. They offer a very focused, high-quality light, with beam angles of 24°, 36° or 60° depending on the desired effect.

Dimmable LED bulbs

Dimmable LED bulbs let you adjust the light intensity according to the atmosphere you want to create. They are compatible with conventional TRIAC dimmers and allow smooth dimming between 1% and 100%. As well as adding versatility, dimmed use extends the bulb's service life and further reduces electricity consumption.

High CRI bulbs for true colour rendering

High CRI bulbs (CRI ≥90, up to CRI 97) offer exceptional colour rendering, similar to natural light. They are essential in applications where colour is critical: art galleries, jewellers, hair salons, photography studios, fashion shops, gourmet restaurants and medical practices. They guarantee that colours look exactly as they are, with no distortion or washed-out tones.

Advantages of choosing LED over halogen

Replacing your old GU10 or MR16 halogens with LED models gives you energy savings of up to 85%, a service life of 25,000-50,000 hours, instant 100% switch-on and no excess heat. This prevents luminaires and ceilings from blackening and reduces the risk of fire in false ceilings with insulating material.

How to choose the right GU10 or MR16 LED bulb

Consider the cap (GU10 at 230V without transformer / MR16 at 12V with driver), the lumens according to ceiling height and the area to be lit, the beam angle (narrow 24° beam for accent, 60° for general lighting), the colour temperature, whether you need it dimmable and, if the product's appearance matters, opt for high CRI models.

Frequently asked questions about GU10 and MR16 LED bulbs

What is the difference between a GU10 bulb and an MR16?

The GU10 LED bulb runs at 230V (mains power) and screws in directly without a transformer. The MR16 LED bulb runs at 12V and requires a compatible LED driver or transformer. The fixing system also changes: GU10 has wide pins with a locking twist and MR16 has thin pins without a twist.

Can I replace an MR16 halogen with an MR16 LED without changing the transformer?

In most cases yes, but the old transformer (electromagnetic or electronic for halogens) may cause flickering or fail to switch on. The recommended option is to replace it with a specific 12V LED driver to guarantee correct operation and maximum service life.

What is CRI and why does it matter?

CRI (Colour Rendering Index) measures how faithfully a light reproduces colours compared with sunlight (CRI 100). High CRI bulbs (Ra≥90) are essential in jewellers, museums, fashion shops, photography studios or hair salons, where appreciating colours accurately is key.

Are all GU10 LED bulbs dimmable?

No. Only those marked as dimmable are compatible with TRIAC dimmers. If you fit a non-dimmable one in a circuit with a dimmer, it will flicker or won't switch on. Always check the technical specification sheet before buying.

Which beam angle should I choose for ceiling spotlights?

For general lighting in a living room or kitchen, we recommend angles of 60°-120°. For accent lighting over pictures, counters or products, opt for narrow angles of 24°-36°. The distance between spotlights and high ceilings also affects the choice.
