Solar LED wall lights for outdoors
Solar LED wall lights solve one very specific problem: getting solar wall light where the electrical installation does not reach. Each solar LED wall light brings together photovoltaic panel, battery and luminaire in a single unit, screws to the wall and works on its own, with no building work and no cable to run. At FactorLED you will find outdoor solar lamps from 200 to 1000 lumens, with IP54 protection and, on most models, a motion sensor or PIR presence detector.
How a solar wall light works
During the day, the photovoltaic panel on the solar wall mounted light itself takes in the light and charges the built-in battery. As night falls, the luminaire comes on using that stored energy. Nothing shows up on the meter, there is no conduit to run and there is no need to bring power to the facade: just a wall with good sun exposure.
Types of solar LED wall lights
- Ambient, around 200 lumens: soft light to mark an entrance, a terrace or a corner of the porch without dazzling.
- Up to 1000 lumens: these really light things up, so you can see the ground, the lock or what is inside a storeroom.
- Adjustable: the head turns and aims the beam where you want it, for example at the entrance step.
- Detachable: the luminaire comes away from its bracket and you can carry it around like a torch, then put it back on its base.
- With selectable temperature (CCT): you choose warm, neutral or cool light on the unit itself. The range also includes 4000K, 4500K and 5700K.
The motion sensor, the central argument
Most of our solar wall lights with a motion sensor are not lit all night, and that is the key. The PIR presence sensor detects someone approaching, switches the light on as they pass and turns it off once nobody is there. The benefit works both ways: you arrive home with the light already on, with no hunting for a switch in the dark, and the stored energy is saved for when it is really needed instead of being spent lighting an empty facade.
200 or 1000 lumens: what changes in practice
A 200 lumen solar wall light creates atmosphere: you can make out the path, see the step, pick out the door. A model close to 1000 lumens does a different job: it washes a wide area and lets you find a tool or manoeuvre inside the garage. If you are unsure, think about what task you want to do under that light; that answer decides the model.
Where to put your solar wall light
These outdoor solar wall lights suit facades, entrances and doorways, walls and boundary walls, garage and storeroom walls, outdoor stairs and porches. All those places have something in common: running a cable would be expensive or impossible. Being IP54 luminaires, they are ready for the dust and splashing water of the open air.
How to choose a solar LED wall light
- Sun exposure: a wall that gets sun for a good part of the day, with no shade from trees or eaves.
- Light level: atmosphere or real visibility, depending on the task.
- Detection: with a sensor in walkways; without one if you prefer continuous background light.
- Color temperature: warm for a welcome, neutral or cool for security.
- Extras: an adjustable head or a detachable body if the use calls for it.
Choose your solar LED wall light and get light on that wall that always stays dark. Add it to your basket and set up your outdoor lighting with no drilling, no cable and no dependence on the consumer unit.
Frequently asked questions
Does a solar wall light need an electrical installation?
No. It is self-contained: photovoltaic panel and battery are built into the unit, so all you have to do is fix it to the wall.
How many lumens do I need in a solar wall light?
Around 200 lumens is enough for ambient light at an entrance or on a terrace. To see clearly in a garage or a storeroom, look for models close to 1000 lumens.
What does it mean that it has a PIR presence sensor?
That the luminaire detects a person moving and switches on as they pass, then goes off by itself afterwards.
Can I install it on a facade exposed to rain?
Yes. These wall lights have IP54 protection, designed for outdoor use against dust and splashing water.
