Decorative LED bulbs: the bulb as part of the design

Decorative bulbs are the ones you fit in plain sight, with no shade to hide them, because their value lies not only in the light they give out but in how they look switched on and off. This category brings together LED filament finishes, metallic bulbs, clear glass and smoked glass models, Smart/RGB versions you control from your phone and vintage designs. Large decorative bulbs for pendant lamps

When the bulb hangs on its own from a cable, size is what makes the difference. Large decorative bulbs in globe (G95, G125) or Edison tubular (ST64, T178) shapes fill the space visually and work well with high ceilings or above wide tables. Remember the naming: the letter gives the shape (G = globe, ST = Edison tubular, A = standard pear, C = candle) and the number gives the diameter in millimetres.

Outdoor models: settle the IP rating first

Outdoor decorative bulbs are used mainly on terraces, porches and patios, hung from festoon lights or suspended lamp holders. The key is not only the bulb: the IP rating of the lamp holder and of the festoon string is what decides whether the assembly stands up to water and dust.

Warm amber or white light: how to decide

Colour temperature changes the result completely. The 2200K amber tone is the truest to the vintage look: golden, very enveloping, perfect for hospitality venues and relaxation areas. Warm light at 2700-3000K keeps that comfort but brightens the colours of the room. And decorative bulbs with white light, at 4000K neutral or 6000K cool, are the choice when the piece has to provide useful light as well as good looks, for example above a counter or in an open kitchen. One thing to bear in mind: an LED filament bulb gives fewer lumens than an opaque LED of the same wattage (roughly 300-800 lm against 800-1100 lm) precisely because its job is decorative.
