Office pendant lamp
Suspending a luminaire is the one lighting decision you cannot undo later without leaving a mark on the soffit. That is why it pays to make it with the drop height measured, the furniture in place and the layout signed off: an office pendant lamp hung in the wrong place bothers whoever sits beneath it, and there is no elegant way to put it right.
We write for the person placing the order: installers, design practices, refurbishment contractors and procurement managers. We work with a trade account, volume discounts and a personalised catalogue, and we prepare the DIALux lighting calculation before you order. The whole range sits under Indoor Lighting, and you can open an account through Contact.
How high to hang it: cable, ceiling rose and fixing
Suspension height is not a matter of taste: it depends on what is underneath and on whether anyone will walk past.
Over a meeting table, the rule that works is to keep the luminaire above the sight line of the people sitting down and below the point where it stops putting the accent on the tabletop. Hung higher, it loses that effect; hung lower, it blocks the view between the people talking.
At a reception desk the reference changes. The person behind the desk is standing, so the height goes up, and the aim is to light the service counter without leaving the luminaire in front of the visitor's face.
In circulation areas, quite simply, you do not suspend. A pendant hung in a corridor is an accident waiting to happen, and the sensible choice there is surface-mounted or recessed fitting.
There are two ways of suspending. Steel or fabric cable gives a light look, and its great advantage is that it lets you adjust the height on site; chain and rigid rods fix the position and hold heavy bodies more firmly. The canopy that covers the connection box finishes the assembly, and it is worth ordering it in the same colour as the body so that it does not stand out.
There is one last check that hardly anyone makes and that saves a lot of grief: find out where the joists run before marking the points. A fixing that lands right on a beam forces you to move the luminaire by a hand's width, and with three units in a row that offset is visible from the door.
It also makes sense to think about maintenance before installation. A pendant hung three metres up over a boardroom gets cleaned once a year at most, so you want a closed body that does not collect dust inside and a diffuser that comes off without tools. Open bodies look great in photos and create work every quarter.
And there is an electrical detail that matters more than it seems: where the power comes in. If the existing connection box does not line up with the point where you want to hang the luminaire, there are two options: reroute through the ceiling void, which is neat but requires an access hatch, or use a body that accepts a side entry. Checking this beforehand saves you from rethinking the order halfway through the job.
Product types: LED bar, ring and statement piece
An office pendant lamp is chosen from three families with a modern look, each answering what a given area needs, and it is best not to mix them within the same room.
The continuous bar is the one that has grown most in workplaces. A bar suspended over a row of desks spreads the light evenly along its whole length and visually brings order to the floor; several units link together into a continuous run, and the aluminium profile acts as a heat sink as well as the body. You will find this family under LED Linear Lighting.
Large-diameter circular bodies light a meeting room with a single piece, and many emit upwards and downwards at the same time: part of the flux falls down onto the tabletop and part bounces off the ceiling, which softens the contrast. That dual emission turns a meeting room into a place where you can spend two hours without visual discomfort.
The decorative family covers reception, waiting areas and cafés, where a welcoming atmosphere matters and the luminaire is part of the company's image. There are bodies in natural fibres, metal and glass, and here the criteria are closer to furniture than to lighting engineering. They are all under LED Pendant Lamps.
Office pendant lamps from all three families have one thing in common: they are ordered with the right suspension hardware from the outset, because it is a requirement of the installation and changing it afterwards means taking down what has already been put up.
And there is a fourth route, less common but very useful in refurbished industrial buildings and in spaces with a lot of clear height: suspending a luminaire designed for recessing by means of its suspension kit. That brings down to working height a luminaire that would otherwise sit four metres up, without changing product or giving up performance.
Material, finish and size: how to choose your lighting without getting it wrong
The design of these pieces is judged both switched on and switched off, and those are two separate tests that hardly anyone carries out separately.
Switched off, what you see is the body: its make-up, its size and its silhouette against the ceiling above. White or black powder-coated aluminium is the most neutral finish and the one that lasts longest without changing its appearance; brushed metal and glass add a warmer touch, and natural fibres bring a special feel that works in reception but not in desk areas. That wide variety of shapes is what lets you cover an entire building without repeating the same piece in places that have nothing in common.
Switched on, what matters is how the light comes out. An opal polycarbonate diffuser spreads the flux without exposing the bare LED, which is what a nearby screen calls for. Without a diffuser you gain brightness and lose the perfect comfort for working: fine over a café counter, not for working beneath it for eight hours.
Size is decided with a tape measure and with the furniture in front of you. A small piece over a long tabletop falls short however much flux it has; a large one over a small table overwhelms it. An excellent result depends on proportion more than on wattage, and it is the mistake we have most often seen corrected too late.
When it comes to style, the safe bet is to keep to a single language per area. A minimalist piece with clean lines fits almost any interior; a bold, distinctive one forces everything else to follow suit. Mixing two registers in the same room is the one thing you notice the moment you walk in.
A note on the datasheet that comes with each product: it is worth reading it in full before you buy, because that is where it says whether the luminaire includes the suspension hardware, what length of suspension cable comes as standard and whether it can be shortened. Those are three details that change the installation and that do not show up in the photo.
Modern-looking lights: where each piece goes, area by area
Each area calls for a different answer, and this is where choosing from a list goes wrong most often.
Over a single workstation, a well-centred desk pendant lamp replaces the desk lamp and frees up the whole worktop; with two or three desks in a row, pendant lamps for desks are aligned with the axis of the furniture. In open-plan workspaces, the bar suspended over long runs of desks combines performance and order like no other solution. In meeting rooms, the circular or rectangular model: a body like that handles a long meeting table with a single piece. In reception, the statement piece. In enclosed private offices it is worth checking whether it fits: with little clear height, a pendant gets in the way more than it helps, and there it is better to go for a ceiling-mounted solution.
Office pendant lights, or hanging office lights as some listings call them, have an operational advantage that is often overlooked: lowering the luminaire shortens the distance to the working plane, so less power is needed for the same level. That cuts energy consumption without changing anything else, and across a large floor plate the difference is measurable.
Where they do not reach, other families take over. The recessed spotlight handles circulation routes and perimeters, and you will find it under Downlight and Ceiling Lights LED, while panels cover the general lighting from LED Panels. Office pendant luminaires do not replace general lighting: they complete it.
A common case: the room that is a canteen at lunchtime and a training room in the afternoon. That calls for a dimmable luminaire, so that the same space can serve both purposes without any building work. The option of dimming is what lets you adapt a multipurpose space without doubling up on equipment.
Installation ideas: a description of what actually works
Three techniques keep coming up in the projects that turn out well, and none of them has anything to do with the price of the luminaire.
The first is repetition. Three identical pieces in a line bring far more order than one large piece in the centre, and they also spread the light better over an elongated tabletop. The second is to vary heights only when there is a physical reason: in a kitchenette with a raised counter and a lower area it makes sense; in a boardroom, it does not.
The third is to let the ceiling do some of the work. Indirect emission turns it into a bright surface that raises the ambient level, which lets you lower the rest of the installation. On floors with plenty of natural light through the façade, this is the combination that improves the whole: the pendant marks the spot and the reflected light makes up for the darker hours.
Among the composition techniques there is a very simple one: align the pieces with something that already exists on the floor, such as a floor joint, the axis of the furniture or the line of the façade. An LED pendant lamp aligned with a real element looks deliberately placed; one aligned by eye looks out of place, even if it hangs at the same height.
And a recommendation for anyone afraid of getting it wrong: finding out how a piece looks in the room costs an order of one unit. With one sample in place you see in a day what no datasheet can show you.
There is one last criterion that hardly anyone asks about and that we always ask: how many hours a day the installation will be on. A boardroom used four hours a week is not the same as a desk area lit from eight to seven. In the first case the choice can be purely aesthetic with no further consequences; in the second, every light point is multiplied by two hundred and twenty working days, and that is where the difference between two luminaires that look the same becomes a figure at the end of the financial year.
That same figure changes the choice of control. For occasional use a conventional switch is enough; for continuous use it pays to provide for a dimming protocol so the level can be lowered when the room is half empty. The extra investment pays for itself, and above all it avoids the refit two years down the line, when someone asks to be able to dim and the whole luminaire has to be replaced.
Buying the office pendant lamp for the whole project
As a supplier, being able to offer the complete selection with the suspension hardware included is what installers appreciate most: every suspension accessory is available alongside the luminaire, so there is no need to chase it separately or stop the job for a two-euro part.
To open a trade account, send the registration form and your company or sole-trader documentation to the sales email address. With an active account you get trade prices, discounts that grow with volume, a personalised catalogue with your details and the option of applying for a credit line with deferred payment, subject to approval. Resellers also get blind shipping and dropshipping with the catalogue connected to their shop.
The integrated LED technology in these ranges provides efficiency and light quality that stays stable over time, which is what counts in a luminaire that cannot easily be reached for maintenance. A luminaire you need to use for five years without touching it is chosen for that, not for its finish.
Shipping costs are calculated in the basket according to weight, volume and destination, and are shown before you confirm; the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla require DUA customs processing and prior contact. The warranty runs up to 6 years depending on the product, with three years as standard, and returns are handled via RMA from the customer area, with return carriage paid by the customer.
Send us the floor plan with the furniture positioned and we will tell you where to hang each piece and at what height. It is the step that turns a catalogue purchase into something you will not have to redo the following year. An office pendant lamp lasts as long as the floor layout does, and that is exactly why it is worth measuring first.
What people ask us before hanging a pendant
How far above the tabletop should I hang the pendant in a meeting room?
Above the sight line of a seated person and below the point where it stops concentrating light on the tabletop. Check it on site with the chairs in place: the drawing never reflects the actual height of the furniture.
Can I hang it from a suspended tile ceiling?
Yes, but the fixing does not go into the tile: it goes into the structure or the soffit, with the appropriate through-ceiling fitting. Order the specific suspension hardware and let the ceiling installer know, because otherwise tiles will have to be lifted afterwards.
How many pieces should I put over a long tabletop?
Almost always more than one. Three medium-sized units spread the light more evenly than one large one and leave room for manoeuvre if the room layout changes later.
Can the bars be joined without a visible seam?
The modular ranges are designed for exactly that and form continuous runs. Confirm the total length before ordering, because the connectors are sold separately and affect the order.
Is a decorative pendant suitable for a desk area with screens?
Usually not. If it does not state glare control, keep that piece for reception or the café and light the computer workstations with a luminaire designed for the job.
Can you manufacture a different size for a project?
We work with catalogue ranges, not made-to-measure products. What we do is look within the range for the combination of lengths and suspensions that covers your case, which in practice solves almost every project.
How much suspension cable comes as standard?
It depends on the range, and it is the detail that most often forces a second order. Check the datasheet before confirming: if the soffit is a long way up and the cable is short, you will need to order the extension, which is sold separately and is not available for every range.
